Allies in Colour//COMPELL commissioned (we conceptualised the research needed to be done and sought academics from UNSW and University of Melbourne to conduct the study) a research on the “Media and Political Literacy of South Asian and Chinese migrant communities” and the interim findings have been published as an article with The Conversation Australia + NZ, below.

These couple of points were quite interesting to us and we are keen to learn more as the research progresses:
☑ “We found a higher degree of political participation among Chinese migrants compared with South Asian communities.”
☑ Our focus groups also reveal that a lack of political literacy can lead people to favour candidates who share their cultural heritage while not understanding the policies the candidates stand for.
