Multicultural WHIP – Women Hustling in Politics!
Non-citizens are welcome!
Multicultural WHIP comprises of:
- The Multicultural WHIP network – be part of a national network of women with a keen interest in politics
- The Power in Practice Program, where you will:
- Be equipped to run as a political candidate – whether it’s for a political party or as an independent
- Gain knowledge to be able to apply for jobs in politics such as campaign organiser, electorate officer, advisor, and many more!
- Understand how data informs political motivations/campaign strategies as an informed voter
- The women’s Public Policy group to advance gender equity
In professional politics, the “Whip” is the enforcer. They are the ones who guarantee discipline, ensure everyone shows up, and turn a scattered group of individuals into a political machine. Without a Whip, power is wasted.
Multicultural WHIP (Women Hustling in Politics) takes that old-guard role and flips the script.
In our world, a WHIP isn’t about being told how to vote, it’s about becoming the enforcers of our own interests.
In the high-stakes world of Australian governance, “confidence” is no substitute for Institutional Literacy. Traditional pathways leave women of colour over-mentored but under-sponsored. WHIP disrupts this.
We’ve moved past the “seat at the table” rhetoric to focus on Systemic Mastery: how power is brokered, how budgets are controlled, and how levers are pulled.
We don’t just train you to participate. We equip you to lead.
The Multicultural WHIP Network
Be part of the ONLY network of multicultural women who are interested in politics, public policy, advocacy, and so much more!!
Introducing the Power in Practice(PiP) Program: Your Political GPS

Led by Dr Heena Sinha-Cheung, who has run for Senate, built multi-million dollar businesses, navigated institutions and defied every “statistic” placed in her way — the Power in Practice program helps you move from interested to intentional.
As our women learn how to navigate power in practice, they will also be equipped with civic literacy, media literacy, and fundamental governance skills via our ACE Leadership Program.
“The intersecting layers of sexism and racism keep the doors into the corridors of power tightly shut to us, and when we somehow push through them against all odds, we face the many barriers of being outsiders to an entrenched system.”

Mehreen Faruqi
Greens Federal Senator – NSW
“biggest challenge people of colour face in politics is lack of institutional knowledge and access. We often don’t have generations of family members who have been members of a political party that can enable us to access information, networks and opportunities.”

Charishma Kaliyanda
ALP State Member for Liverpool, NSW
“Let us not settle on multiculturalism being just a brand…but rather fully embrace it“…“I was not elected as a token representative of diversity,”

Fatima Payman
Independent Federal Senator – WA
Our Unique Pathway to Political Leadership
We are the only organisation in Australia combining political candidate training with civic leadership program. All our program participants will get priority entrance into the coveted ACE leadership program.

The Women’s Public Policy Group to advance Gender Equity

The group is led by Dr Jane Chimungeni-Brassington who has a PhD in International Fisheries, Ocean Law and Governance and with over 15 years of experience in public policy.
Her expertise spans from development and implementation of management frameworks and protocols for shared natural resources within a regional context, to interpreting legislation towards effective implementation of international treaties within domestic laws.
Why Join Multicultural WHIP?
While Australia is proudly multicultural, our halls of power tell a different story. This isn’t just a diversity issue; it’s a democratic deficit.
Our WHIP network, supercharged by the Power in Practice Program, ensures you are informed, connected, and prepared to make decisions about political leadership on your own terms.
- Some will run. They’ll have a map and a plan.
- Some will organise. They’ll understand the levers of change.
- Some will influence from inside systems. They’ll know how to build capital and create access.
All will understand power.
What Membership Gives You
When you join Multicultural WHIP, you don’t just attend events.
You gain:
• Access to the Power in Practice Program
• A supportive network of ambitious and politically-engaged multicultural women
• Be a part of a public policy group to advance gender equity
• A pathway into deeper civic training through our ACE Leadership Program
Who We’re For
Multicultural WHIP is for women who:
- are considering running for office now or in the future
- would like to work as campaign organisers, political advisors, electorate officers, etc…
- would like to enter public policy roles but want a deep understanding of the fundamentals of politics and civics education
- are tired of being encouraged without being equipped
While Multicultural WHIP was created to support multicultural women pursuing pathways into politics, we also welcome allies who believe in strengthening representative leadership and want to support that mission.
You do not need to be:
- a citizen (yet)
- party-affiliated
- already “political”
You do need to be serious about power.

“Thank you so much for all your support, to think I was going to wait until I was 50+ to do this, because I didn’t have the support, knowledge or tools & because of you all, I’m giving it a go now!”

Tatum Moore

“Tharini delivered an interactive and practical session about things to look out for when preparing to run for public office. Sharing her lived experiences on various campaigns, Tharini gave useful insights about community organising in an engaging way.”
