Federal Election 2022 – Results and Data

Federal Election 2022 Results:

As mentioned in :

Some data around election results (as of June 28, 2022):

  • Only about 8% of elected MPs are from an ethnic background (this includes Indigenous MPs)
  • We have elected about 3% Indigenous MPs which is a fantastic result!

Please note that I am talking about the following data without including the senators who were not up for election this year (this is a half-senate election and so only 40 out of the 76 seats were facing election)

  • Indigenous candidates have done very well in the senate with a 13% representation (among candidates of colour), and this includes 2 newly elected Indigenous women.
  • Half of the senators elected come from the Labor party. In fact, they have elected (and re-elected) 100% of their candidates of colour for the senate which is worth praise.

  • For the Senate, the Greens have run the most number of candidates of colour and indigenous candidates than both Liberals and Labor combined.
